The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy is a film series based on the epic trilogy by J. R. R. Tolkein. The series was directed by Peter Jackson and stars Ian Mckellen, Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom. Among one of the most ambitious movie projects, the series cost around $280 million and took about eight years to complete.
The chief thread of the story is emphasised by the effort of the different races of Middle Earth to prevent the resurrection and ascension to power to the vanquished Dark Lord, Sauron. In this movie, the Hobbit Frodo and his One Ring play a pivotal role.
The One Ring was part of the inheritance that Frodo received from his uncle Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo was given the ring by a creature called Gollum, originally a Stoor Hobbit. He was corrupted by the ring and became the treacherous creature who is obsessively possessive of the ring, calling it his "precious". The One Ring is recognised as the mystical ring that gave Sauron his absolute power over other races, by Gandalf the Wizard. He tells Frodo to destroy the ring in the volcano, Mount Doom in Mordor, where it was forged. This is the only way to prevent Sauron from rising again.
The Fellowship Of The Ring
The Fellowship Of The Ring is formed to accompany Frodo to Mordor. It consists of Frodo, his friend Samwise Gamgee, his cousins Merry and Pippin, Gandalf, Legolas the Elf, Aragorn the Man and Gimli The Dwarf. As they proceed towards their destination, they are attacked by Sauron's faithful followers. The Fellowship is then broken up.
The Two Towers
In The Two Towers, Sam and Frodo, separated from the group, continue towards Mordor. Sauron has realised that the Ring is now in the possession of a Hobbit and his minions are now on the prowl. Frodo, Sam and the rest of the broken Fellowship are challenged many times and encounter several dangers on the way.
The Return Of The King
In The Return Of The King, different races of Middle Earth have formed an uneasy alliance in order to battle Sauron and his hordes. They are now set for the final epic battle against Sauron and his powerful army. The fate of all the races hangs in the balance, to be decided by whether Frodo manages to destroy the One Ring, thus destroying Sauron's power.
